New TN Anti-SLAPP Statute Provides Extra Protections

As described in the Tennessee Code, the purpose of the Tennessee Public Participation Act is to "encourage and safeguard the constitutional rights of persons to petition, to speak freely, to associate freely, and to participate in government to the fullest extent permitted by law and, at the same time, protect the rights of persons to file meritorious lawsuits for demonstrable injury."

Tennessee adopted the statute to provide additional protections and discourage and sanction frivolous lawsuits.

Waller's Robb Harvey and Todd Hambidge, acting through the nonprofit Tennesseans for Public Participation (which was formed thanks to the assistance of Waller partner Jon Gaston), helped draft and organize support for the legislation.
