Litigation attorney Shelley Hurwitz was quoted in a Successful Fundraising April 2023 edition article about maximizing bequest revenue after the donor's passing. Ms. Hurwitz spoke about how nonprofits can avoid letting fiduciaries delay the distribution of the gift. She also spoke about indemnification and talked about situations to steer clear from.
"When I get a gift instrument, the first thing I try to determine is how old the donor was when it was signed," she said. "If there's a gift instrument signed when the donor was 50, and there's an amendment signed when they were 96, there may have been somebody unduly influencing them."
