Florida Judge Continues Block on Migrant Release Without Court Notices
Immigration attorney Leon Fresco was quoted in a Spectrum News article about a U.S. District Court judge in Florida ruling to deny a stay in an ongoing case on U.S. immigration policy. Last week, the court granted Florida's motion to put a temporary block on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) new parole policy. The DHS and the U.S. Department of Justice requested to lift the block, but Judge T. Kent Wetherell denied it. The policy would allow the DHS to admit migrants into the country under the promise they report back to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within 60 days. Mr. Fresco explained what Florida is trying to contend in its case against the federal government.
"The argument they’re trying to make to the court is: the easier you make it for people to get out of detention, the easier it will be for them to get to Florida," he said.
