Rep. Soto, Attorney Talk Potential Government Shutdown Impacts on Immigration Programs and Services

Immigration attorney Leon Fresco spoke with Spectrum News about the effect that a government shutdown would have on various immigration-related agencies. A shutdown would disrupt U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) operations, immigration courts and the E-Verify system, affecting a wide range of programs and leaving about 72 percent of the workforce at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) working without pay during a shutdown.

"The E -Verify system, which is what a lot of companies use to hire people, that system actually shuts down during a shutdown," he said.
