Healthcare Reform Will Affect Treatments for Patients with Rare Diseases

Healthcare attorney Daniela Arbeláez was cited in an article by El Nuevo Siglo that delves into the impacts of health reform on individuals with rare diseases in Colombia. Ms. Arbeláez explained how the reform establishes provisions for the care and treatment of these diseases, but it also generates uncertainty about the availability of resources and the specific implementation of prevention and treatment models. Additionally, she highlighted the lack of specific stipulations regarding the delivery of medicines and patients' access to specialists.

"The way in which the service will be implemented at the departmental and regional level is questioned, since the reform proposes the use of ICT telehealth tools; however, a highly complex pathology cannot be attended by video call," she said.
