High Court's Recent Denial Spurs Hope for Diversity Policies

Law360

Education attorney Paul Lannon was quoted in a Law360 article emphasizing the significance of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision not to review the admissions policy case involving Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, which has been interpreted as a validation of race-neutral admissions practices. Mr. Lannon highlighted this ruling as providing a blueprint for schools and businesses to creatively promote diversity within the legal confines established by the Supreme Court's recent decisions against affirmative action. He described the decision as a critical step toward establishing a more equitable admissions process that could serve as a model across educational institutions and beyond, suggesting that this approach to admissions might become a broader legal precedent for promoting diversity without directly involving race.

"Other circuits will be citing to it. It is the law now," he said.
