Mining: Innovation and Sustainability for a Balanced Future

Mining attorney Estefanny Pardo was interviewed by El Tiempo about the advancements in sustainability and innovation that are transforming mining in Santander, Colombia. Ms. Pardo explained how the historically mining region is undergoing a process of evolution, prioritizing environmental conservation without sacrificing economic development. Projects like Soto Norte are at the forefront, focusing on water conservation and reforestation, achieving the planting of more than 86,000 trees. Ms. Pardo highlighted the economic and social importance of mining in the region.

"At the national level, mining contributes three percent of the GDP per capita. Although this figure may seem small, its social, economic and environmental impact is significant. North Santander contributes 14 percent of the mining sector's royalties and generates about 30,000 jobs in the region," she said.
