Energy attorney Natalia Suárez was interviewed by Infobae about the rising gas prices in Colombia. Ms. Suárez pointed out that instability at the country's Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG), especially under interim director Antonio Jiménez, has hindered the implementation of critical technical measures including refining rate formulas to prevent arbitrary increases and ensure that regulatory decisions are supported by professional input. She also expressed her opinion that reforms to the Public Services Law are necessary to safeguard consumers without discouraging investment in the sector, particularly as efforts to support renewable energy projects and make energy costs more affordable for end users continue.

"The impact on rates will largely depend on how the classification is regulated, the objective mechanisms for implementing subsidies and the program's form and methodology to achieve the proposed measure's goal," she said.
