Bucshon Sees Potential Compromise on Enhanced APTCs
Inside Health Policy
Senior Policy Advisor Larry Bucshon spoke with Inside Health Policy about the potential for a compromise on the enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits, known as Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTCs), which are set to expire at the end of the year. Despite general Republican opposition to these subsidies, Mr. Bucshon suggested that Congress will likely reach an agreement to extend a modified version of the APTCs. He noted that although many Republicans disagreed with the original expansion under the 2021 American Rescue Plan, the impact on constituents if the credits expire entirely would be significant, creating an environment conducive to negotiation.
"Basically, I think it's a situation that's ripe for a deal," Mr. Bucshon explained, adding that he would be surprised if lawmakers allow the credits to end completely.
