The Surprising Pair Fighting Medicaid Cuts
Senior Policy Advisor Larry Bucshon was quoted in a POLITICO article addressing the debate over proposed Medicaid cuts. Lobbyists for hospitals and the insurance industry are ramping up pressure on Congress to hold off on the changes, citing concerns about rising healthcare costs and decreasing policy enrollment. However, Mr. Bucshon said, lawmakers will respond more readily to being held accountable by voters, rather than insurers and providers. He also pointed out that Republicans' success in enacting the cuts will depend on presenting the changes as program-strengthening reforms.
"I don't think the biggest push will come from the insurers and others. It will come from people's constituents and patient advocates and people who are concerned about access to care," he said.
