Washington, D.C. – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Jeff Boothe and Shawna Watley, both Partners in the firm's Public Policy and Regulation Practice have organized the two day "Streetcar Summit" sponsored by the Community Streetcar Coalition. Boothe also serves at Executive Director of the Coalition.
Today and tomorrow, more than 20 elected officials and 100 attendees are in Washington to hear from Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), David Agnew from the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Federal Transit Authority Administrator Peter Rogoff, Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg and Ron Sims and Shelley Poticha of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Community Streetcar Coalition was formed in 2004 to advocate for streetcars at the federal level. There are more than 80 cities seeking to make an investment in streetcars. With the announcement of the livability and sustainability principles by DOT, HUD and EPA in June 2009 and the decision to fund five streetcar projects in the TIGER program and an additional $135 M for Urban Circulators, the Administration is committed to streetcars as a way to shape economic development, affordable housing and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by creating more walkable and livable communities.
