WASHINGTON (March 10, 2021) – Dan Sennott, most recently the Republican staff director for the House Armed Services Committee, has joined Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office as a partner in the Public Policy & Regulation Group.
As the Republican staff director for the House Armed Services Committee, Mr. Sennott was the principal staff advisor responsible for the formulation, negotiation, passage and enactment of the $740 billion annual defense authorization bill, which covers all programs and activities at the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as the national security programs at the U.S. Department of Energy. He also was responsible for the strategic planning and execution of all committee oversight and legislative operations on behalf of the committee members.
Prior to serving as staff director, Mr. Sennott was general counsel for the committee, providing legal advice on all national defense areas, including administrative law, emerging technology, CFIUS, Space Force and acquisition law. Previously, he was counsel and staff lead for the Military Personnel Subcommittee, responsible for development and oversight of personnel policy, health system policy and the personnel budget. Before joining the staff of the House Armed Services Committee, he served as an Army officer for nearly 21 years.
"Dan has significant experience with defense and national security issues. For those of our clients doing business with the Department of Defense for the first time or those seeking to understand the changing environment, it can be a daunting task, and we anticipate that Dan will be able to use his experience and skills to help clients navigate this complex process," said Rich Gold, the leader of Holland & Knight's Public Policy & Regulation Group. "His experience also will be helpful to clients that have issues relating to national security matters handled by the Department of Energy."
"With his extensive relationships within the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the defense industry, Congress and the administration, Dan is a great addition to our team and increases our bench strength in an area where there are opportunities for significant growth," added Jason Klitenic, the leader of Holland & Knight's National Security, Defense and Intelligence Team. "Not only will Dan provide valuable assistance to our existing clients with defense and national security policy and regulatory matters, but he also will help develop new business opportunities for the firm in this ever-expanding field of practice. In addition, he will contribute to the government contracts, investigations, trade regulation, M&A and other work the firm is presently doing for defense and intelligence clients."
"With more than 25 years in federal government service, eight of which were dedicated to working with and for Congress, I am excited to be joining Holland & Knight. I look forward to leveraging the skills I have developed over the past two decades to help clients resolve complex problems involving the defense industry and Congress," said Mr. Sennott.
