Holland & Knight Partner Christopher Nolan Sworn in as Chair of ABA Tort, Trial & Insurance Practice Section for 2024-2025

NEW YORK (August 5, 2024) – Holland & Knight Partner Christopher R. Nolan was elected chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort, Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), one of the ABA's largest sections. He was sworn into office on Aug. 3, 2024, during the ABA's annual meeting in Chicago.

Mr. Nolan previously served as chair-elect of TIPS, and immediately prior to that, he served as secretary from 2018-2022. He was also previously a member of the 15-member TIPS Council and chair of the Admiralty & Maritime Law Committee. He has served in a host of other leadership roles in the organization over the last decade.

"This section is a critical factor in my professional and business development, and I cannot wait to help others enhance their business opportunities during the next year," said Mr. Nolan. "At our fall meeting in Kauai, from October 16-19, we will feature the Inaugural TIPS In-House Counsel and Professionals Summit, to address key issues impacting the insurance industry, including artificial intelligence (AI), social inflation in light of nuclear verdicts and cybersecurity concerns."

He added, "At our spring meeting in Washington, D.C., from May 7-10, 2025, we will have over 15 hours of CLE programming, culminating in a judicial panel led by the Hon. J. Michelle Childs, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, who will also be honored at the section's reception at The Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture. I hope that everyone will take advantage of the incredible programming we have to offer this year."

Mr. Nolan works in Holland & Knight's New York and Chicago offices and serves as co-chair of the firm's Transportation and Infrastructure Group consisting of 220 colleagues around the world. Mr. Nolan is an international dispute resolution and arbitration lawyer whose practice concentrates on complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on maritime, contract and insolvency matters.

Mr. Nolan is the only American lawyer to be included three times on the "Top 10 Maritime Lawyers" by Lloyd's List, a ranking of the most influential lawyers in the global maritime industry, in 2018, 2019 and 2023.
