Overview

George Bishop is an attorney in Holland & Knight's Nashville office who focuses his practice on corporate and healthcare matters. The depth of Mr. Bishop's experience within healthcare, along with his ability to fashion innovative solutions for difficult situations, is well-recognized among industry leaders. He has served as lead counsel on several hundred transactions involving a wide range of investor-owned and nonprofit healthcare providers. His transactional practice is national in scope.

Mr. Bishop has been representing healthcare and other clients in a variety of matters for more than 40 years. In the course of his career, he has extensive experience in:

  • mergers and acquisitions
  • joint ventures and syndications
  • antitrust matters
  • healthcare regulatory issues
  • securities offerings
  • venture capital financings

He has also traveled abroad on several healthcare trade missions and advised the United Kingdom's Department of Health regarding possible revisions to the National Health Service.

Previously, Mr. Bishop is a former chairman of Waller and served as the head of both its corporate and healthcare practice groups.

Mr. Bishop was involved in founding the Health Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association of which he served as the initial chair. He was also the initial chair of the Health Law Committee of the Nashville Bar Association and has served multiple terms as a member of the board of directors of the Nashville Health Care Council.

  • Advised Capella Healthcare in its affiliation with KershawHealth in South Carolina
  • Represented HCA Healthcare, Inc. in its acquisition of 24 Texas MedSpring urgent care centers from Fresenius Medical Care
  • Advised HCA Healthcare, Inc. in its $450 million asset purchase of Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia
  • Served as special healthcare counsel to HCA Healthcare, Inc.in the acquisition of Meadows Regional Medical Center and part of Meadows Health
  • Represented Lifepoint Health and its affiliate as lead transaction counsel in the sale of its majority ownership interest in community hospital Capital Medical Center to MultiCare Health System
  • Represented Lincoln Health System in Tennessee in a partnership agreement with Huntsville Hospital system
  • Represented RCCH Healthcare Partners in its acquisition of Lourdes Health Network from Ascension Health
  • Served as counsel to RCCH Healthcare Partners in its acquisition of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) in Lewiston, Idaho
  • Advised RCCH HealthCare Partners in its $78 million acquisition of Trios Health in Kennewick, Wash.
  • Served as transaction counsel to RCCH HealthCare Partners in its joint venture with UW Medicine
  • Represented RCCH HealthCare Partners' EASTAR Health System in its acquisition by Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee
  • Represented Erlanger Health System in its evaluation of future options and the passage of a new state law authorizing the hospital to change from a governmental entity to a private, not-for-profit hospital system
