Overview

Juan Manuel Loaeza is an international trade attorney in Holland & Knight's Mexico City office. Mr. Loaeza has more than seven years of experience advising clients on foreign trade projects, customs matters and legal remedies.

Mr. Loaeza's work focuses on helping to ensure compliance with Mexican legislation and international trade agreements, designing and implementing business strategies, and obtaining permits and authorizations before Mexican authorities, as well as preventing and resolving legal conflicts that companies may encounter. Mr. Loaeza has advised international companies and individuals in a variety of industries, including warehousing, transportation and manufacturing.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Loaeza worked at the Federal Tribunal of Administrative Justice and at other leading Mexican law firms, where he contributed to a wide range of projects related to foreign trade and customs matters.

Representative Experience

  • Advised a major Japanese automotive company on streamlining its manufacturing industry, maquila and export services (IMMEX) program and value-added tax (VAT) certificate, resulting in a significant reduction in operational costs and risks
  • Advised a leading engine oil company during an audit initiated by Mexican tax authorities regarding the accurate payment of import taxes
  • Advised an oil company on the renewal of temporary imports for deepwater drilling rigs necessary to continue its exploration work in Mexico
  • Advised a multinational coffee company on securing an import quota for coffee capsules, leading to a substantial reduction in import taxes
  • Advised a pharmaceutical company on its expansion into Mexico under the IMMEX program
  • Advised a soft drink company in several litigation cases related to compliance with customs clearance formalities
  • Advised a global apparel company to reduce its customs operations in Mexico as part of a tax and corporate reorganization legal strategy
