36th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School
Florida Chamber Foundation, Florida Chamber of Commerce
Marco Island, FL 34145
Florida environment and land use attorneys Larry Sellers, Rafe Petersen, Ted Brown, Alan Krischer and Alessandria San Roman will participate in the Florida Chamber of Commerce's 36th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School. This annual program is part of the Florida Chamber Foundation's ongoing efforts to keep its members and other business organizations informed of the environmental laws effecting the Sunshine State's residents and businesses. It draws a mix of attorneys, consultants, engineers, state and local government officials, developers and landowners, along with others interested in Florida environmental issues. Holland & Knight is proud to sponsor this event.
Mr. Sellers will moderate a panel discussion titled "Florida's Environment, Water Policy, the 2022 Legislature and Beyond." Speakers will analyze what the 2022 Florida Legislature passed - or considered but failed to pass - with a particular focus on environmental and water policy issues. The session will also preview additional legislation to be implemented in 2022 as well as what to expect in 2023.
Mr. Petersen will moderate a panel discussion titled "Federal Environmental Regulation and Enforcement Update." Panelists will examine the latest changes to federal environmental policies and regulations under the Biden Administration, such as how policies and the roles of federal agencies are shifting and how states and advocacy groups are responding to those changes.
Mr. Brown will participate in a session titled "Strategic Planning and Permitting for Development." He will explain strategies for obtaining environmental and growth management approvals for land development projects under Florida's current laws and agency practices as well as explore the effects of recent legislation and administrative actions. The session will also cover procedural requirements from different agencies and steps to take to avoid litigation.
Mr. Krischer will join a session titled "Concurrency, Impact Fees and Mobility Fees – The State of the Law on Local Government Exactions to Fund Infrastructure and Schools." Speakers will address how recent changes in the law will affect local government exactions and what local governments can expect moving forward.
Ms. San Roman will speak on a panel titled "What to Expect When Being Inspected." The session will explain what regulated facilities need to know about compliance inspections and how to effectively prepare for them. Panelists will provide an overview of the roles of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the DEP's approach to satisfying compliance objectives. The session will also address what inspectors look for during an inspection and offer overall best practices for staff to follow before, during and after an inspection.
