How Law Firms Can Employ More Veterans
Attorneys Daniel Sylvester and Nicholas Hasenfus co-authored an article for Law360 discussing the importance of hiring veterans and explaining how law firms can attract and retain more veteran talent. According to the National Association for Law Placement, veterans make up 2.8 percent of all attorneys in the legal profession and only 1.75 percent of BigLaw attorneys. However, the authors note that veterans can make an immediate impact on an organization because of their unique skillset and experiences. Hiring veterans should therefore form part of a firm's diversity and inclusion plan. In this article, Mr. Sylvester and Mr. Hasenfus talk about ways to demonstrate a commitment to advancing veterans in the legal profession, such as developing robust pro bono and community service initiatives, as well as policies to help retain veteran hires.
