The Diablo Foothills Winegrowers Association Becomes 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
San Francisco Chronicle
California Winery Industry Services Partner Michael Newman, chair of the firm's Alcohol Beverage Team, was featured in a article titled "The Diablo Foothills Winegrowers Association Becomes 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization."
The article reports that Hannah Nicole Vineyards and Winery announced that the Diablo Foothills Winegrowers Association is an official 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. Members of the organization, The Contra Costa Winegrowers Association and other vintners recently convened at Hannah Nicole to hold their first meeting, focusing their discussions on formally establishing a unique American Viticultural Area (AVA) for a Contra Costa County appellation. The Diablo Foothills Winegrowers Association will develop a comprehensive study and petition the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to designate a unique AVA for the area. The study will focus on the terrain that lies east of the Diablo Foothills, including Eastern Contra Costa County, and other contiguous areas. "Holland & Knight is pleased to help assess the climate, geography and topography of the area that lies east of the Diablo Range," Mr. Newman said. "The evidence seems to point to significant temperature, humidity and precipitation differences between Eastern Contra Costa County and other areas, suggesting the need for an independent AVA. We look forward to lending our support in this effort."
