Justices Won’t Hear News Aggregator’s Copyright Fight

Newstex, a news site that shares content from other sources, was found guilty of violating copyright laws.

MidlevelU, a website for healthcare professionals, had filed suit in June 2018 against Newstex claiming that Newstex had copied the site's content "nearly word-for-word -- thus, infringing the copyright on its article, without permission -- and then charged subscribers to access them," as reported in this Law360 article.

Ultimately, "a jury found in favor of MidlevelU and the trial judge entered a judgment on the jury's determination. The Eleventh Circuit affirmed the judgment." Newstex challenged the district court's ruling, but the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear the case.

Waller's Drew Warth and Mark Bell are representing MidlevelU in the proceedings.
