What AI Means for ESG
Artificial Intelligence Policy & Regulation attorney Paul Stimers was quoted in a Financial Times article exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors. Recently, both the United Kingdom and United States took high-profile steps designed to encourage AI development while mitigating some of its negative effects. In the U.S., President Joe Biden's executive order called for expanding grants for AI research in areas like climate change, as well as establishing an institute to govern AI. Mr. Stimers noted that government regulators are keeping a close eye on AI governance strategies and advised companies to take steps to reduce their liability exposure.
"AI and AI-enabled technologies will likely be subject to new federal standards and requirements to promote safety, security and equity," he said.
