Diddy Probe Could Take Months Before Feds Decide Whether to File Charges. Here's Why

Miami Herald

Litigation attorney Barbara Martinez was interviewed by the Miami Herald about the federal government's sex trafficking investigations involving hip hop producer Sean "Diddy" Combs. Recently, federal agents executed search warrants at Combs' houses in Miami Beach, Florida, and Los Angeles, as well as questioned him at an airport. Ms. Martinez, who previously served as chief of the Special Prosecutions Section at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami, explained that proving sex trafficking cases is challenging because of their complexity — success depends on establishing a pattern and understanding the scheme. She added that the agents investigating Combs will need to take the evidence collected from the searches and create a compelling timeline "to corroborate things that don't lie."

"The key to these kinds of cases is to treat them like a complex crime," she said. "What you're looking for are pieces of a puzzle that you're putting together."
