What Do Ecopetrol and the Ministry of Mines Propose in the Face of the Gas Deficit for 2025?

Energy attorney Claro Manuel Cotes was cited in an article published by Vanguardia about the possibility of importing gas from Venezuela to address a possible shortage in Colombia in 2025 and 2026. Recently, the Colombian Association of Natural Gas (Naturgas) announced that the supply of local gas will not be sufficient in the short and long term, to which the state oil company Ecopetrol responded with alternative ways to supplement the country's supply, including imports from Venezuela. Mr. Cotes questioned this measure and pointed out that priority should be given to exploration and drilling activities in the country to strengthen energy self-sufficiency.

"The decision to import gas from Venezuela seems to contradict the suggestions of some guilds and technical entities in Colombia, which advocate increasing local exploration and drilling to increase our national gas production and reduce dependence on gas imports for internal energy supply," he said.
