Environmental attorney José Vicente Zapata was interviewed by Semana Magazine about the evolution of environmental regulations in Colombia. Environmental topics are at the forefront of international debates, including in Colombia, especially after the election of President Gustavo Petro. Mr. Zapata commented on Law 2387 of 2024, which modified the environmental sanctions regime, increasing the maximum fines and imposing a heavier burden on corporate boards of directors. He also said the increase in fines will affect cost-benefit analysis in companies' decision-making processes.
