Mexico to Court Private Investment in Power Sector to Support Green Energy

Wall Street Journal

Energy attorney Rodolfo Rueda was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article discussing the Mexican government's strategy for energy. President Claudia Sheinbaum's Administration released a long-term electricity plan, which stresses the importance of renewables and presents more private investment opportunities in the power industry. The administration also hopes to increase economic growth with nearshoring investments, which are expected to boost energy needs in the country. As Mr. Rueda explains, the impact of the enabling and secondary laws, which will be developed next year, are unclear.

“That’s the most delicate part, because there isn’t absolute clarity about the dispatch rules,” said Mr. Rueda. “In fact we won’t see this until we get the dispatch rules in the secondary laws.”
