Trump or Harris, the U.S. Will Keep Pumping Gas for Europe
Energy attorney Jim Noe was interviewed by Politico about how the U.S. presidential election will affect exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe. The European Union (EU) has relied more heavily on the United States for LNG imports since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war, and the U.S. now provides nearly half of the EU's supply. President Joe Biden's decision to pause LNG exports to review their environmental and economic impacts raised concerns, but both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have alleviated these fears on the campaign trail. Mr. Noe noted that although Harris has made clear her intention to continue Biden's clean energy initiatives, her overall approach is pragmatic, and companies shouldn't expect exports to cease any time soon.
"A Harris Administration would be hard-pressed to walk back LNG projects and exports to allies," he said. "We could see a continuation of the hold-your-nose stance where she allows some aspects of the oil and gas development to continue."
