Permission to Launch
Aerospace America
Public Policy & Regulation attorney Paul Stimers was mentioned in an article featured in Aerospace America reviewing the regulatory challenges currently facing the U.S. space industry. The article outlined the industry's push for faster and more efficient licensing processes for launch and reentry, highlighting concerns over the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) capacity to meet increasing demand. Mr. Stimers discussed how recent regulatory changes could shift the paradigm by aligning space launch practices more closely with aviation standards under which the design of an aircraft is approved but each individual plane doesn't need to be licensed.
"There's no other vehicle that we regulate by the ride. It really doesn't make sense for us to continue to do it with rockets," he said.
