How Independent Workers Must Contribute to Social Security Following the Pension Reform in Colombia

Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by Valora Analitik about the pending pension reform in Colombia and its effects on the social security contribution system for independent workers. Starting July 1, 2025, companies will be required to withhold and pay contributions for health, pensions and occupational risks for their contractors through an electronic form, similar to the current system for employees. Mr. Cuervo explained that it will be the responsibility of companies to deduct the necessary contributions from the payments to workers.
"Just like the current practice with tax withholdings, the payer – that is, the contracting company – will have to withhold the contributions owed by the worker for health, pensions and occupational risks," he said.
