The Government's Reform Created the Concept of Early Retirement Through Colpensiones
Asuntos Legales
Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by Asuntos Legales about the recent pension reform approved by Colombia's Congress that introduces the concept of early retirement through Colpensiones. This new benefit will allow individuals with at least 1,000 weeks of contributions and who are 65 years old for men and 62 for women to access a pension before completing the usual 1,300 weeks. The missing weeks will be deducted from their pension payment. Mr. Cuervo added that this reform also maintains early retirement pensions for disability and for having children with severe disabilities, explaining the requirements for accessing funds in these situations.
"The approved text states that 'those entitled to an early retirement pension for disability are individuals with a physical, mental or sensory deficiency of 50 percent, who are 50 years old (women) or 55 (men), and have contributed for 1,000 weeks,'" he said.
