The Problem With Schedule H
One of the fundamental flaws of the Schedule H section of the IRS Form 990 is that providers are often not held accountable, largely because of the vague framework of community benefit reporting, for notifying community members most likely to need assistance about the financial assistance policy.
In order to remedy this, the IRS is beginning to take a closer look when reviewing hospitals. Waller's Don Stuart said, “More hospitals are getting notices from the IRS to provide more information related to where information is supposed to be on their website or other deficiencies. So hospitals have to be reactive now so they don't run into audit issues.”
