La República

Labor and employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was featured in an article published by La República analyzing the work week reduction in Colombia. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro recently ordered the reduction of working hours in his own country, changing the list of Latin American countries that have the highest number of legal work hours in a day. Mr. Cuervo recalled that Colombia currently has a work week of 46 hours, but Law 2101 of 2021 initiated a gradual reduction to 42 hours per week by 2026. With this change, the country will become one of the nations with the shortest work weeks. Mr. Cuervo commented on how this could affect worker productivity.

"The productivity associated with a reduction in hours is subjective. Productive sectors cannot be measured equally... Colombia is a country that, according to studies, works a lot in terms of time, but is not necessarily the most efficient in production," he said.
