Employment law attorney Kara Ariail shared her thoughts with FORTUNE in an article about the effects of long COVID on employees and what employers need to know about accommodating workers experiencing long-term COVID-19 symptoms. Winter is the time of year for sicknesses to spread, making it also the most vital time to take steps toward ensuring employee safety in the workforce. Ms. Ariail said long COVID is not something that can be ignored, especially after the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission classified long COVID as a disability protected under the American with Disabilities Act.
"Employers have a responsibility to make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities, which means that an employee can still perform the job as long as some accommodations are in place," she stated.
