Would Decrees Revive the Labor Reform? This Is What the Government Can Do
Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was cited in an article published by El Espectador examining efforts by the Colombian government to revive the labor reform following its defeat in the country's Senate. President Gustavo Petro has said he will resort to a citizen referendum, and the country's Labor Ministry has declared it will prepare new regulatory decrees to implement aspects of the failed bill. Professionals interviewed by El Espectador highlighted that decrees are weaker than laws and because of that their scope is limited. Mr. Cuervo added that in his opinion, the ministry's announcement is more of a publicity tactic than a concrete strategy.
