What Is the Scope of the Labor Reform and What Implications Could It Have for the Country's Employees?
Labor, Employment and Benefits attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed in a Semana article where he discussed the potential impacts of a labor reform in Colombia. He criticized the premise of restoring lost labor guarantees, arguing that workers have not lost but have actually gained more rights. Mr. Cuervo also warned that the reform may lead to increased labor disputes instead of improvements, negatively affecting investment and job creation and encouraging informality.
"I believe that all we are sowing is labor conflict, not improvements for workers. This, sooner or later, will lead us to the need to rethink this reform, but also to generate sensitive restructurings within the Colombian labor system and the job market," he said.
