The Workforce Outlook for Law Graduates

La República

María Paula Albán, Holland & Knight's Bogotá office administrator, was featured in a La República article analyzing the market for lawyers in Colombia. According to the Ministry of Education, in 2024, of the 227 active higher education institutions in the country, 114 offered law programs or degrees; in addition, according to the Colombian Association of Criminal Attorneys, each year between 12,000 and 20,000 lawyers graduate. Ms. Albán commented that a number of opportunities in the public and private sector await new lawyers, but certain international firms require additional skills, such as fluency in English and digital competence.

"The market for attorneys is very wide. There are opportunities for employment in law firms, companies or in the public sector, which allows there to be a range of possibilities depending on what the recent graduate wants to do," she said.
