Holland & Knight Represents SMBC on $400 Million Syndicated Loan to Bladex

NEW YORK (May 24, 2024) – Holland & Knight represented Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) as sole lead arranger and sole bookrunner on a global $400 million syndicated loan facility for Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior S.A. (Bladex). The transaction closed on May 12 and was disbursed on May 21.

Bladex is an NYSE-listed supranational bank established by the central banks of Latin American and Caribbean countries to promote foreign trade finance and economic integration in the region.

The transaction is the largest syndicated facility ever closed in Bladex's history. It attracted the interest of 33 financial entities from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Spain, Austria, the U.S., India and China, some of which represent new banking relationships for Bladex and a diversification to the bank's funding structure. Proceeds from the loan will be used by Bladex for general corporate purposes.

Holland & Knight Partner Stephen Double and Associates Maria De Bedout and Benjamin Cuevas advised SMBC on the deal.
